Comment: 50 years, where did the time go?  I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion and hearing what you've been doing.

I retired 6 years ago from a Community Relations position with the CU school of Medicine. Previously my work was in marketing and non-profit management.

I have found retirement to be surprisingly interesting and busy.  I'm active in the City of Westminster, CO as a member of the Planning Commision, Co-Chair of a task force that recommended the creation of an Inclusivity Board for the city and as a library volunteer helping people with job search.  I like the connections that are possible in a smaller city.  I know the City Council members and have helped in several re-election campaigns.

I play golf and travel, closer to home now after several trips beyond our shores.  I'm blessed with the time, health and means to have a lovely life.  And, through my volunteer and political work I try to help those who are less fortunate.

September, 2016

Twenty-two years ago I accompanied my parents to their 50th reunion and thought, boy, these folks are old. Five years ago my husband and I went to his 50th and we thought, boy, these folks are old. Now it's our 50th, does that mean we are old? Surely not. While helping search for missing Farmers, in a fun conversation with Linda Adams Bugner, she asked a reasonable but shocking question,”What have you been doing for the last fifty years?"  It doesn't seem that long ago that we were strolling the halls of WRHS, but a half century somehow passed in the blink of an eye. We have been retired for a long time--Brian since 2004 and me since 1994, although we both worked part time after that. He did consulting and I did freelance writing. We decided early in our marriage to leave our big city jobs and very hectic lifestyle and move to small town U.S.A. in a stunningly beautiful part of Colorado. It was either do it then or wait until retirement and we have loved living in Montrose for the last 30 years. We embraced retirement from day one and were amazed at how quickly the days seemed to fill up with things both meaningful and meaningless. Even more shocking was how quickly our finely honed time management and multi-tasking skills vanished once they were no longer needed. Our kids and grandkids are happy and busy, scattered in Oregon, Arizona and Texas. Brian's mom and my parents are still alive and we are experiencing the sobering reality of taking responsibility for loved ones at the end of life. It is both a shock and a blessing as our parents suddenly become our children. It will be wonderful to see everyone at the reunion and reminisce. There were many fun times and and those pesky, not so fun times, like when your hair wouldn't go into that perfectly frozen flip or you didn't get asked to the dance. Or maybe your car wasn't cool enough or you didn't have one. Or you didn't make the team or you made the team and sat on the bench. Only as an adult can you appreciate that things that seemed so monumental then really are not so important when factored into the context of a life well lived. Time is the great equalizer and it waits for no one.  All of us have known great joy and tremendous heartache. Those experiences have made us who we are today.

2006

I am married with three grown children and one grandson. I retired from working in management about 10 years ago and now do freelance writing for local events, businesses and organizations. My husband, Brian, retired several years ago and we love traveling, doing volunteer work and enjoying life in beautiful western Colorado, our home for the last 20 years.

There are too many fun memories from high school to choose just one. Great pep rallies and games supporting our outstanding athletic teams; wonderful teachers, (although I may not have appreciated them at the time), like Mrs. Knudtson cracking the whip in Latin, Mr. Bolin in Biology, Mrs. Callas in French. Good friends to study or goof off with. The pride of being a Wheat Ridge Farmer.
