Jim Trumbo

Comment:

The following tribute was shared in 2006 by Gerry Kearby - Jim’s close friend and our classmate:

Jim Trumbo passed away last year of brain cancer.  After he and I graduated from Wheatridge, we became roommates at CU.  We partied, separated, I was drafted and went into the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps...Jim became the piano player for Van Morrison and played on many of his hit records.  (You can guess which one of us had more fun in music).

I am honored to have two of his three sons working for me now and we keep his memory alive with his music and many stories.

Some of you may remember that Jim, (who became an evangelical preacher in the Bay Area) wrote the arrangement of “Try to Remember” that we played with the choir and the Jim Trumbo Trio at graduation gatherings.  Also, Jim and I fondly remembered our times in the choir and our weird time playing at the prom.

Those of you who knew him might want to send any memories you have of Jim to Isaac Trumbo.  He can be reached at isaac@neurotone.com .

I know he would appreciate hearing from you.

Good guy, great piano player, able to shoot 100 free throws in a row...impossible guy to play horse with...

Best Regards and have a fun reunion,

Gerry Kearby (Jerry)

Resident of Georgetown for 27 years. Worked for Xcel Energy for 31 years with 29 years at Cabin Creek Hydro above Georgetown. Went to CSU for 1 1/2 years dropping out to be a ski bum. The end result of that diversion was 6 years in the Navy on a nuclear submarine. After the Navy hired on with Public Service at Ft. St. Vrain nuclear plant.

Transferred to Cabin Creek Hydro to be back in Georgetown as I lived there when I was skiing full time. Married Wendy Anderson who I had met when I lived in Georgetown before. Had a failed marriage in between. Have two children (ages 23 & 19). The 23 year old just graduated from CSU and the 19 year just finished her freshman year at Ft. Lewis. Was very involved with ski racing when the children were growing up and now am interested in cycling & european car racing. Favorite memory of WRHS was going to the sporting events-especially basketball games. Unfortunately that is all what comes to mind at the present.(Last update: 2012)

I remember when my parents attended their 50th class reunion, also graduates of WRHS.  It was held at Panorama Park at 35th and Fenton. I wondered at the time why a bunch of old people would want to get together and remember the "good old days."   I now realize that it is important to remember and cherish all the good times in your life.  Time goes by so quickly.  I look forward to renewing old friendships and perhaps starting new ones.  Thank goodness I am not as shy as I used to be.

I have remained in the Denver area since graduating. I worked for Kmart for 10 years training new employees for new store Grand Openings in state and out of state. I am now in my 26th year with Sysco Denver Food Service as Human Resource Coordinator. My family is here in Denver except for my older brother in Idaho. Just a little of Star Tidbit, his Stepmother in law is Carol Burnett.

My memories from WRHS would be going to football games with Cynda Beyers and Cherlyn Gauthier. They were in the class of 65. Cherlyn passed away in December 2004. There were also good times with Miss Bergschneider.(Last update: 2006)

Now deceased.

In 2006, Gail wrote: Last 40 Yrs.?  Earned a Bachelors in Music Ed/Vocal from CU Boulder in 1970.   Hated student teaching.  Worked as an Admin. Was in an abusive marriage for 22 years.  Escaped and got divorced.   Re-met Will Hardesty  (WRHS '64) at a  reunion of WR band students in '95.  We got full custody of his two sons (Colin WRHS '02, Kevin WRHS '06) in '99.  It was fun to have 8 years of attending WRHS band events with them.  We finally found time to get married on 6/23/06 in Lakewood and then had a Navajo ceremony in Gallup, New Mexico on 7/22/06.  (Will has adopted Navajo relatives).

I had to move my parents out of their home of 45 years to an Alzheimer's group home in May '06.  It's difficult to watch their decline, but I cherish the time I have left with them.

I sing with the Golden Concert Choir, I'm the proud Mom of 2 dogs and a box turtle, I collect Navajo jewelry, Hopi Katchinas, Native American artwork, and enjoy traveling in the southwest.
