Ben King

Comment:

"Ben King, 64, died Jan. 18, 2013 at his home in Scottsbluff, NB.  His memorial service was  held Jan. 21, 2013, at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Angela Jones officiating.  In keeping with his wishes, his remains were cremated.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name were directed to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Ben was born August 30, 1948 in Denver, Colo. to B. Palmer and Lois (Brooks) King.  He grew up and received his education there, graduating from Wheatridge High School with the class of 1966.  He was a graduate of University of Colorado at Boulder with both his undergraduate and law degree.   While in law school, he worked at the Arvada, Colo. city attorney’s office and went on to become the Arvada City Attorney.  On September 10, 1977, he married Sue K. Bannick in Denver.  He continued to work in Arvada until 1984, when he and Sue moved to the family farm southwest of Morrill.  He helped on the farm and also worked for the Urban Renewal Authority in Denver before joining Randy Reed and establishing the Reed and King Law Office in Mitchell, where he practiced until ill health forced his retirement in 2007.  He moved to Scottsbluff in 2011.

Ben was an avid reader, loved to walk and backpack and especially enjoyed waterfowl hunting.  He served on the Mitchell Irrigation District board for many years.  He will be sadly missed by many good friends and his hunting buddies.

Surviving him are his wife Sue of Scottsbluff, his sisters Carolyn (William) Allen of Arvada, Colo. and Kathryn (Mike) Barber of Las Cruces, N.M.; a brother in law and sister in law Gregg and Cindy Bannick of Littleton, Colo.; and nephews and nieces Mike Allen of Morrill, Lisa Young of Torrington, Wyo., Bryan Barber of Los Angeles, Calif., Kristen Echols of Houston, Texas and Hunter, Calista and Mia Bannick all of Littleton, Colo. His parents and one nephew preceded him in death.

Brothers and Sisters:

The predominantly white class of 1966 noticed the situations of people of color through personal encounters around the city and country. TV and newspapers started to cover our marches, boycotts, and sit-ins. Some class members were not particularly interested; others joined efforts for improved voting opportunities, schools and jobs for low-income, minority individuals. Your concern may carry forward in compassionate views toward immigrants or victims of war around the world. Our march goes on.
