Tracy Getz

Marital status: Married
Comment: "Tracy B. Getz. Faculty (retired) University of Washington, School of Dentistry. Behavioral medicine, Clinical Psych.

Current occupation: Wayfarer.

Best Teacher: Mr. Ellis. He taught us to think.

Biggest Regret: Not knowing how to make WRHS a better exp.

Fifty years ago I was a shy, anxious, depressed and lonely teen who could not have

imagined how well my life has turned out. I'd never have predicted I'd meet a woman who would draw me out of my shell, a career as a faculty member at the U.W. , or meet the love of my life. I'd never imagined that I would travel the world, or retire at 55 to the best little mountain town in the Rockies: Durango. Here we rediscovered the outdoors and the beauty that is Colorado. In 2013 we purchased a place in Tucson & offically became snowbirds, tho I think a better term is sunbirds, as we chase the sun.

We continue to travel abroad whenever we can, and this fall we will knock about Laos & Cambodia. My life has been blessed by good fortune or good choices, I''m not sure which.

Painfully shy, I've few memories of talking with my classmates, & I'm sure they have even fewer of me! I'd be interested in meeting fellow students of Mr Ellis. For me, and perhaps others it was the most meaningful experience of H.S.  I've yet to decide if I will attend, but I think we should all be appreciative of the efforts folks are putting in to make the event happen.

I'd love to hear from anyone with a yen to write.

Steve Gildea

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Professor, Retired
Comment:
I retired last year from teaching at Merrimack College, north of Boston. I am really enjoying not having to go to work! About the time of my retirement, for the first time in my life, my art went viral on the internet. Well, one piece did - Planetary Suite. My 15 minutes of fame has resulted in selling some prints of the painting. It keeps me busy.

I also spend a lot of time studying Japanese. I travel to Japan every year and have made a lot of friends through my study. But, after 15 years of study of the language, I can't seem to pass the mid-level proficiency test. Ah well.

I have two grown children, Derek, 27, and Jessie, 35. Jessie has two children 2 and 4 years old for whom I do some babysitting fairly often.

My favorite memory of Wheatridge High is the view of the mountains from the classrooms. I still have dreams of that view though I have not been back to Colorado since 1972.

I'm afraid I was not the most sociable kid in high school but it is nice to see photographs and profiles of everyone. My thanks to the reunion organizers for making this possible.

Ron Gist

Comment: "After graduating from WRHS, I went to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, where I received BS and MS degrees in chemical engineering.  Several other WRHS grads also went to Mines, including Dave Duston and Rick Sadok.  While at Mines, I met Sally Rager (WRHS class of 1967)and we got married between my Junior and Senior years.  We moved to Houston after I graduated.  (I did not think about having to move away from Colorado when I picked chemical engineering as my major.)  We moved back to Colorado for a few years while I worked as a consultant for oil shale projects.  Unfortunately, that did not last, and we returned to Houston.

Sally and I have three sons: Scott, Brian, and Grant.  Scott is married, and lives in Houston.  Brian is engaged, and lives in Denver.  Grant lives in Dallas, and is getting married on the same day as the Class of 66 reunion, so I will not be able to see you all.

I am now a partner in an energy consulting company, and Sally is a middle school special ed teacher.  We return to Colorado whenever possible to visit parents, brothers, sisters, and our son.

My favorite memories primarily revolve around going to school sporting events, and the Barns that followed.  I also enjoyed going skiing with the WRHS Ski Club.  One stand-out memory was winning the Moonrakers dance from KIMN."
